UNCONDITIONAL LOVE: KEY TO LASTING RELATIONSHIP

The phrase unconditional love has been misinterpreted. Many use this phrase as an excuse to stay in bad relationships when they don’t really know what it means.
Unconditional love really means “I love you no matter what happens, NOT no matter what you do to me”. It means you love no matter what life throws at us.
In my last post how to get over a break up, one of my readers suggested I write about how to avoid break up instead, a good suggestion, but the fact is no matter how you avoid a broken relationship, you have to deal with yourself and your mindset. You have to start by loving yourself. If you know how to love yourself definitely you will know how to love others unconditionally.
Instead of focusing on the failures or mistakes of your partner, you concentrate on the benefits of the experience and what you’ve learned from them. Many relationships fails because one or both of the people involved demanded too much of each other, they start having conflict over unmet needs which can only be met by God. Forgetting the fact that no one can meet all their needs except God.
Unconditional love is not blind, you have a choice, it’s controllable, and it sees the truth and spills it out if necessary. If you have fallen in love with someone and want to build a lasting relationship with them, see them as an extension of yourself.  When it comes to marriage unconditional love needs to be exercise fully, it is for better for worse no matter the condition.
One good thing about unconditional love is it doesn’t close its eyes to reality. A portion in the bible explains the perfect meaning of an unconditional love:
"4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not
boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not
self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of
wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the
truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes,
always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will
cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where
there is knowledge, it will pass away."    1cor. 13; 4-8 (NIV)
Love yourself, embrace and accept that we all have our differences as human. Love one another for the joy of loving without thought of what you will get in return. Above all, God is love,  put Him first.
