To value something goes beyond regarding it as important; you also appreciate its qualities, while investing time, energy, effort, and sacrifice in its nurturing or maintenance.
Self-value is simply behavioral than emotional, more about how you act towards what you value, including yourself than how you feel about yourself compared to others. It necessarily includes self-care. If you place a great value on something obviously you will focus on it and nurture it. For instance you bought a gold necklace, you focus on its beauty, it care, making sure it is well taken care of and well maintained and be kept safe. So also you will take good care of yourself if you value yourself.
Most people have lost their self-value by comparing live with others, by listening to what people say about them, while some due to unhealthy relationship. The truth is when we learn to value ourselves we value others even more (think of how you feel when you’re loving and compassionate to those you love). When you devalue someone else we devalue ourselves, our sense of well-being deteriorates.
Please note, you should value others doesn’t mean you should value people who doesn’t worth it, people who only cause you so much pain and affects you negatively. You should not waste your time with those that does not respect, appreciate and value you. You might not be able to change the people around you but you can change the people to be around. The more you value other people, animals and things the more our self-value becomes; the more we devalue the more our self-value sinks.
